THE 7 CURRY TOUR

7 Curry Tour

The tour commences at 9 am where we will all meet  for a 15-minute briefing on the day .You will then gather your own waterlily leaf to start the day off Then take off to the local market to purchase some of the gorgeous vegetables to make the 7 curries. We will meet Buddy who has been selling water coconuts for over 50 years and partake in a delicious cold coconut water.
Then we visit  the Indi spice factory where we will see the spices being ground and watch the fascinating process of making curry powder and preparation of lots of different herbs and spices. We will be given a fresh pack of curry to take as a souvenir
We then make our way to Tony Favorites Puri shop where you will be able to watch a demonstration of how the puris are made and get to make them yourself. You will see as Tony prepares the puri ball then throws it to his nephew who rolls it and then throws it to Tonys son who cooks it right in front of you .​t’s time to visit the lovely Secret Garden to cook the 7 curries .
You will be taken through the process of how each curry is made and learn some of the techniques from Eon John, The Singing Chef
As soon as the curries are all cooked we will all sit down together in the thatched bamboo gazebo  and eat. Photo opportunities abound as you are pictured making the curries and then eating them in a beautiful setting. Then Eon gets out his guitar and sings songs about Guyana that he has penned himself

The Taste of Freedom Tour

A journey into the history of slavery and the struggle for freedom culminating in the newly freed African slaves purchasing their villages. 
We will  visit the Kofi statue  who led the first slave uprising coupled with an explanation of his role in the history
We will then visit the 1823 Rebellion Monument and learn about the rebellion and the part the church  and the abolitionists played in the slave's final emancipation
Then journey to the village of Victoria, the first village in Guyana to be purchased by the freed ex-slaves.
Then on to the site of the Buxton Train station and view the spot where the train was stopped by the freed female ex-slaves who were protesting to the Governor. about the high taxes imposed on them. Then on to meet one of the ex-slave ladies who stopped the train. Her granddaughter Auntie Gloria is a 3rd generation herbalist who like her mother before her and her mother before her has been treating the people of Buxton for all their lives.
it’s on to the Buxton Friendship Museum. Here is where we will have a guided tour on the history of the freed slaves in Buxton, and how it was born. We will then start to create the delicious traditional dishes of Cook up rice Metamgee with pumpkin dumplings and fried rice followed by conkee .a typical African dessert. whilst being entertained by the sound of African drumming. After the meal, we will gather the wild black sage and show you how to make toothbrushes.
 
Then it’s time to go back to Georgetown with heads full of stories and culture and belly full of food in the African tradition
